Tony, I’m gonna need you to focus.
And I needed you. As in… past tense. That trumps what you need. It’s too late, buddy.

I think Tony’s resistance has A LOT to do with the fact that, as he continually brings up, they will be gambling with the lives of every being in the universe by playing with time travel. Scott is sooo focused on the potential gain of that gamble that he’s not even considering the potential loss. And not merely their lives, which Tony points out will probably be forfeit.

1) They’re risking their own version of the snap, killing every child born in the last five years, including Tony’s own child (whom I’m sure he doesn’t want killed/sacrificed).

2) They risk making things worse, leading to the death of EVERY person in the universe (an outcome that literally almost happened & would’ve if not for Tony’s sacrifice).

These aren’t small matters to just dismiss. So despite the small chance they’ll actually succeed, Tony’s not sure he even wants to go down that road. Because of course, if they blow it again, if they end up destroying what’s left of their universe or sacrificing a ton of innocent children, it’ll his fault for taking that gamble in the first place. It’s a scary road to walk, and though he eventually agreed to risk it, I was happy at least somebody took it seriously and voiced the gravity of what they’re messing with.

Yep! And that’s what makes Steve, Nat, and Scott’s decision to just go get help from somebody else with the Time Heist that much more fucked up. Not only did they dismiss Tony’s warnings, yet again, but they also didn’t seem to even care that they would be risking his daughter’s existence after he just told them that he couldn’t help them because he wasn’t going to risk potentially trading Morgan’s life (and that of millions of other children born post-Snap) for just the chance to undo the Snap.

Tony was also, very clearly, an expert on Quantum Physics. He warned them of the risks and dangers involved in just attempting to travel back in time. And what did they do when he rejected to help? They went straight to somebody else who was not an expert on Quantum Physics. They were 100% willing and committed to attempting the Time Heist on their own, without Tony and instead with a guy who told them, to their faces, that the Quantum Realm “is not in [his] area of expertise”. They had no fucking clue what they were doing and they still went ahead and tried it anyway! Bruce literally turned Scott into a fucking baby, a preteen, and an old man. Just imagine what else would have happened if Tony hadn’t shown up and prevented them from fucking shit up even more… Would they have accidentally killed Scott? Doomed another timeline? Doomed their own? Who the fuck knows.

It honestly just further proves how fucking short-sighted the rest of the team actually are–especially Steve. He doesn’t look at the bigger picture, think of the long-term effects, or consider the consequences of his actions. In Age of Ultron, he opposed Tony’s proactiveness and desire for preventative measures against intergalactic threats with the naive sentiment of the “power of friendship”–and even said that he was okay with losing! (Until they actually lost, that is. Then he changed his tune…) In Civil War, he refused to compromise with 117 countries calling for accountability, and ended up not only dividing the Avengers (making them unprepared for Thanos) but also making half of them wanted fugitives for breaking several international laws. In Infinity War, he refused to allow Vision to sacrifice himself in order to destroy the Mind Stone because “we don’t trade lives” but just ended up trading countless Wakandan lives instead for a fucking robot–a robot who understood that one (synthetic) life cannot outweigh the trillions of lives across the entire universe–and yet it just lead to Thanos’ victory anyway. And finally, in Endgame, he only thought about undoing the Snap, and didn’t once stop to truly consider the high-stake risks involved, such as erasing all the children born post-Snap or erasing the entire universe, as the comment above me already stated. He just doesn’t really think past the next five minutes of anything. It’s frustrating. He’s meant to be this “expert strategist and tactician” but MCU!Steve is just like Error 404: Footage Not Found.

#GOOD LORD THE COMMENTARY#you know who never learn from their mistake#lmao#and that line tony said to them during his outburst#that’s what we do right? our best work after the fact#the AVENGERS not the PREVENGERS#many disaster could have been prevented if they see past the next 2 hours of their lives#the avengers as they called themselves are really short sighted#lmao but the guy who’s cautious about the decision they make#the guy who wants to prevent stuff from happening#the guy who’s actually the one with a functional braincell#they dismiss him#never listen to him#the time heist did blew up in their face it’s only because the same guy with the braincell sacrifice himself so you all clowns and fools ca#can live#can you tell im angry and bitter again (van-dyne)
