reading with ADHD like:

*reads one line*
*predicts what’s going to happen*
*skips ahead a couple paragraphs to confirm your suspicion*
*skips back up to get context for what just happened*
*skipping ahead again to finish the thought*
*rereading the last 3 paragraphs kind of in order before moving on to the next scene*

*realizing that at some point you zoned out completely and have been staring at the page for half an hour without reading a word*

*sitting down with a book and reading so intensely that you don’t register a thing aside from this book until you hit the very end and come out the other side disoriented because nothing else is real and also you haven’t eaten in five hours and have needed to pee for three and it’s 3 am and you need to get up in 3 hours*

*trying and failing to read the same paragraph a dozen times because there is a sound in your environment and you can’t process both things at once*

*reading industriously for half an hour before looking at the page and realizing that at some point in the last 15 pages you stopped absorbing the words and have just been moving your eyes and turning pages without processing any of the contents and you don’t know where you lost the thread or why*

* can’t listen to audiobooks without also playing with your phone
